CORE Members Engage with Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) of HKSAR on Sustainable Fisheries Development

On July 24, 2025, Professor Jianping Gan and Professor Stanley Lau from the Center for Ocean Research in Hong Kong and Macau (CORE) were invited by Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) of HKSAR to join an exchange meeting.

During the meeting, representatives from AFCD presented their "Sustainable Fisheries Development Blueprint," discussed the planning of new fish farming zones, outlined the licensing process, and provided updates on the development of framework aquaculture farms.

The two parties conducted a joint inspection of the AFCD Modern Mariculture Demonstration Farm, where they observed its operations and engaged in discussions regarding the "Sustainable Fisheries Development Blueprint" and potential collaboration opportunities.

As a research hub jointly established by national laboratories and universities in Hong Kong and Macau, CORE plays a crucial role in regional marine big data modeling and the industrialization of aquaculture technologies. This collaboration strengthens its connectivity by providing application scenarios for "new marine productivity." The deep synergy between CORE and AFCD not only contributes to promoting sustainable fisheries development in Hong Kong but also injects sustainable momentum into the high-quality development of the marine economy in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area through a co-governance mechanism for marine ecology.

This partnership exemplifies the commitment of both institutions to fostering innovative solutions and sustainable practices in the marine sector, ensuring a resilient and thriving marine ecosystem for future generations.
