Shandong CPPCC Chair Delegation Visits HKUST

On May 20, 2026, a high-level delegation from Shandong Province, led by Ms. Ge Huijun, Chairperson of the Shandong Provincial CPPCC, visited HKUST. The delegation included Vice Governor Wen Nuan and key officials responsible for science, technology, and industry. The visit focused on marine industry development under the national 15th Five-Year Plan, aiming to deepen Shandong-Hong Kong collaboration in marine technology, the blue economy, and talent exchange.

Professor Guo Yike, Acting President of HKUST, hosted a symposium. Professor Gan Jianping, Director of the Center for Ocean Research in Hong Kong and Macau (CORE) and Head of the Department of Ocean Science at HKUST, attended as a core research representative, engaging in discussions on marine science frontiers, industrial transformation, and regional innovation.

As a key platform for ocean research in Hong Kong and Macau, CORE has long been committed to fostering Hong Kong-mainland cooperation in marine environment, ecology, and sustainable resource use and Professor Gan’s participation was particularly significant. This dialogue laid the groundwork for Shandong-Hong Kong collaboration in building a marine industry hub during the 15th Five-Year Plan period.

CORE will continue to serve as a bridge, advancing Shandong-Hong Kong synergy under the national maritime strategy and facilitating the integration of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao with the Shandong Peninsula Blue Economic Zone.
