Exchange Tour from Institut Teknologi Bandung
In October 2023, representatives from Indonesia's Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) visited Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) for a three-day exchange programme. The visit provided an opportunity for the two institutions to explore potential collaborations, particularly in the area of research on regional estuaries and coastal oceans.
During the visit, Prof. Jianping GAN, the Director of the Center for Ocean Research in Hong Kong and Macau (CORE), met with the ITB representatives to discuss potential research collaborations. CORE is looking forward to developing joint projects that focus on studying the responses of coastal ecosystems to socioeconomic activities and climate change in Balikpapan Bay, Indonesia, where the geographical features are very similar to the Pearl River Estuary, China.
The visit also provided an opportunity for the two institutions to discuss future collaboration plans, including student exchange programmes and fieldwork collaborations.
Through the cooperation established with ITB, CORE can better serve as a window for international collaborative platforms, further developing exchanges and joint research in regional estuaries and coastal oceans in Southeast Asia.
