Awarded Research Grants Council (RGC)’s Areas of Excellence (AoE) Scheme 2023/24 (Eleventh Round)

                                          

 

The Hong Kong Research Grants Council (RGC) has announced the latest project to receive funding under the Areas of Excellence (AoE) Scheme on 13 July 2023. The project, "Study of the regional earth system for sustainable development under climate change in the Greater Bay Area," has been awarded HK$87.147 million* and will be led by Project Coordinator Prof. Jianping Gan - Director of CORE.

 

The project will bring together experts from diverse fields to conduct groundbreaking research. The team will conduct pioneering regional earth system (RES) research and provide science-based understanding, planning, and mitigation strategies and solutions through a digital twin to subsequently safeguard environmental sustainability and resilience against human activities and climate change in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA). With the significant funding awarded, the project will have the resources to conduct extensive research and generate significant results. The project's findings will contribute to promoting sustainable development in the region and provide valuable insights for policymakers, researchers, and the public.

 

The "Study of the regional earth system for sustainable development under climate change in the Greater Bay Area" project is a significant step towards promoting sustainable development in the region while mitigating the impact of climate change. The project's results will be eagerly anticipated and have the potential to contribute to a more sustainable future for the Greater Bay Area.
